DLS Greens GC Advances to NCGA Club Finals

July 22, 2008 -- The "rookie" four-man team of Enrique Olives, Mandy Reyes, Matt Hizon and Jojo Espiritu held the green banner of the DLS Greens Golf Club up high at yesterday's Sectional Qualifying competition held at the Poppy Ridge Golf Club in Livermore and thereby qualified for the Northern California Golf Association's 26th Annual Associate Club Championship. 

The four golfers, who teamed up as Olives/Reyes and Hizon/Espiritu, teed-off in the chilly 7AM climate of Livermore and navigated the toughest Poppy Ridge course combination of Merlot/Chardonnay.  The day's format was 18 holes stroke play with the best two balls (of four) being counted for the team's score.  The DLS Greens GC Team encountered problems early on in their rounds but gutted it out to score an impressive 14-under par 130, a mere 4 strokes off the top winner in their Merlot/Chardonnay group.  A never-say-die 5-under-par rally in the last three holes proved to be the winning stretch that catapulted the team to the 2-round NCGA Club Championship on August 25 and 26. The finals will be held at two prestigious courses, Spyglass and Poppy Hills Golf Courses in the Monterey Peninsula.  Enrique and Matt are carryovers from the original team with Tom Consunji and Manny Noguera, who had to beg off from the day's competition for vacation and health reasons, respectively.  That first four-man team topped the local qualifying round held last May 28 at the Crystal Springs Golf Club in Burlingame to qualify for yesterday's Sectionals.
