Dumancas, Rosales Win At Poppy Hills

May 19, 2009 -- Ramon Dumancas scored a net 1-under-par 71 to win the Masters division of the monthly DLS Greens Golf Club tournament held last Sunday May 17 at the Robert Trent Jones Jr. classically-designed Poppy Hills Golf Course in scenic Pebble Beach, CA. Ramon's score was two strokes lower than runner-up Matt Hizon. Tom Consunji, who scored the day's lowest gross score (83), placed third in the division.

In the Classics division (indices 18 and above), Armando Rosales net par 72 was a run-away 6-stoke winner winner over the durable veteran Bill Gardner. Rico Medina won a tie-breaker over Dino Africa to win third place.

Twenty-three alumni and one guest golfer participated in the year's third monthly tournament. They played off the relatively short 6,175-yard yet challenging 134-slope rated white tees. Those who were looking forward to taking a respite from the Bay Area's unseasonal heat wave found themselves playing in cooler-than-expected climate with fog rolling in and out during their round. The course though was in excellent condition and made the out-of-town trip worthwhile in addition, of course, to the usual camaraderie among the alumni golfers.

Matt Hizon's steady play in the year's first three tournaments earned him 250 points and put him in the forefront of the Golfer of the Year standings. Matt is a clear 30 point leader over 2006 Golfer of the Year Manny Noguera. Arlo Santos is a close third at 210 points.
