Manalo, Mercado Atop Bridges Standings

August 20, 2011 -- Mike Manalo and Joji Mercado won the A and B Flights, respectively, of the August edition of the ongoing 2011 DLS Greens Tour at the Johnny Miller-designed The Bridges golf course in San Ramon.

Mike Manalo redeemed his lackluster performance in last month's tournament by scoring the day's second best gross score of 86 (net 69)  to win the Flight A category. Matt Bataclan had the day's low gross bragging rights with a 79 but ended up two strokes back in net play to place second. Irvin Sevilla rounded of the Flight A category winning trio with a net 75.

Joji Mercado made his flashy debut in the year's DLS Greens tour by coasting to a 7-stroke victory in Flight B. Renato Maloles and Dino Africa placed 2nd and 3rd with net 76 and 78, respectively.

The golfers played off the 142-slope rated white tees. While the course isn't particularly long (6,229 yards), the narrow fairways make The Bridges golf course quite a challenge, as evidenced by many blow-up holes experienced during the tournament in both divisions. Most penal was par 5 hole # 6 which caused 13 out of the tournament's 22 golfers to score snowman (8 strokes) or worse. Otherwise, it was another good day with fellow alumni hackers!
