July 20, 2013 — Orly “Da Mayor” Mayor won the DLS Greens 2013 Tour monthly tournament held today at Summitpointe Golf Club located in the foothills of Milpitas.Orly had a (net) 7-under par 65 and won by three whopping strokes over Bobby “Mr. Apple” Panlasigue. Nutsie Maloles, who was in Orly’s foursome, got wind of some of the winning magic to place third with a net 70.
The alumni golfers teed off the white tees, which had a stout 131 slope rating despite its short 6,031 yardage. The course featured tight hillside fairways, doglegs and sloped greens. Many golfers had several three-putts in the course’s bent/poa greens. Mike Manalo used his familiarity with his former home course to post the day’s lowest gross score of 89. Closest to the pin bragging rights went to Andy Litton and Irvin Sevillaon holes # 3 and 13, respectively.
Sixteen DLS Greens golfers competed in this month’s tournament. The first group teed off at 11a amid warmer-than-usual summer weather that reached the low 90s by mid-afternoon. All had fun anyway!
