June 14, 2014 — Visiting Philippine taekwondo master and Makati councilor Monsour del Rosario showed he had enough golf savvy as well to win this month’s tournament (Division A) held at the Greg Norman-designed Livermore golf course called The Course At Wente Vineyards. Mon shot the day’s lowest nine-hole gross score of 39 at the start of his round to coast along to a 4-under par 68 and a three stroke win over runner-up Manny Noguera. Mon’s steady round included two natural birdies and 8 pars.
For Division B, Luther Jao shot 2-under 70 to win by two strokes over Rico Medina. Like Monsour, Luther won on the strength of his excellent front nine score of (net) 32 before fading out with a 38 at the back.
Twenty golfers — 9 for Division A and 11 for Division B — competed in this month’s tournament and enjoyed excellent golf conditions at the upscale golf course that runs along the Wente vineyard estate. They were challenged by the course’s fast greens, elevation changes and strategically-located bunkers. Only 5 scored (net) par or better but all enjoyed the friendly competition and camaraderie of fellow alumni.
Photo above shows Monsour wrapping his arms around (L-R) Romi Beza, Joji Mercado and Ron Riego de Dios at the Oakhurst Country Club after a practice round in preparation to the Wente tournament.
