June 15, 2013 — A red-hot Ron Riego de Dios won his third consecutive tournament at the monthly competition held this time at Oakland’s Metropolitan Golf Club.Ron shot the day’s lowest gross score of 79 to score a net 68 for the round. In second and third places were Bobby Panlasigue and Irvin Sevilla, respectively. Bobby’s round featured 5 pars, which was very good for a 19 handicapper. On the other hand, Irvin had one more birdie but had 3 less pars than the eventual winner Ron. At the end, Bobby posted a net 70 while Irvin had a net 71.
Ron continued his winning streak in rather unremarkable fashion. He had a bogey-double bogey start before birdieing the 3rd hole and rattling off three straight pars before settling for a gross 40 front nine score. Ron then made 6 pars coming in to post 39 and a total of 79 for the day.
Fifteen alumni competed at the tournament, which reverted back to its usual net stroke format but was limited to a single division play only. The day’s closest-to-the-pin bragging rights went to Irvin Sevilla at the 144-yard # 5 and Clem Yu at the 142-yard # 15. The last two placers had no NCGA handicap and had to post their gross scores.
