Former DLSAANC Director Jose Mari Villanueva Vargas passed on last Saturday Oct. 26 at his residence in Pittsburg, CA at the age of 64. He leaves behind his wife Vicky Lim-Vargas, children Carla Vargas, Clint Vargas, Julia Vargas, Patricia Lacson, Luigi Lacson and grandchildren Andres and Xavier Lacson.
Mari was very active with the association, especially the golf tournaments, in the early 90s thru the early 2000s. He was a true and loyal La Sallite of old (as opposed to the current Lasallian), having graduated GS’62, HS’66 and LiaCom’71, all at the then-called De La Salle College at Taft Avenue. His diabetes and heart ailment forced him to retire and stay in the sidelines in recent years.
A memorial mass will be held on Monday Nov. 4 5:30p at the Church of the Good Shepherd located at 3200 Harbor St., Pittsburg, CA 94565. Rosary prayers will precede the mass at 5p. Reception will be held immediately after the memorial mass at the family residence located at 1791 Peachwillow St., Pittsburg, CA 94565.
